March 26, the Indiana Supreme Court voted 5-0 that the state’s Choice Scholarship Program is constitutional (PDF), despite objections that it would fund private, religious schools. The court concluded that was not the case, because parents, not the state, decide if money goes to religious schools.
March 26, North Dakota enacted a law that prohibits abortion after a fetal heartbeat has been detected, which can occur as early as six weeks. The state also banned abortions based on genetic abnormalities.
