New EU report details increase in human trafficking
SCOTUS roundup: Adoption dispute and gene patenting
The European Union released a report (PDF) this week indicating a steady rise in victims of human trafficking.
Despite the rise in trafficking, only six out of 27 EU Member States have adopted the anti-trafficking directive, agreed upon by all states in 2011. The deadline to fully ratify the directive passed earlier in April.
The report shows that victims of human trafficking increased by 18%, while convictions for the crime of trafficking fell by 13%.
You can read a press release, summarizing the report.
