April 29,1945—Germany's notorious Dachau concentration camp is liberated by U.S. troops.

April 29, 1992—In Los Angeles, rioting claims 54 lives and results in an estimated $1 billion in property damage. The rioting broke out after a jury acquitted four white Los Angeles police officers charged in connection with the beating of black parolee Rodney King.
