April 15, 1912—The British luxury liner RMS Titanic sinks in the North Atlantic less than three hours after striking an iceberg.

April 15, 1947—Jackie Robinson becomes baseball's first black major league player since the 1880s when he debuts with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Robinson went on to win the 1947 Rookie of the Year award.
