  • The Congressional Budget Office estimated that the Fiscal Year 2011 deficit was $1,300 billion ($1.3 trillion).

  • Citing Census Bureau data, The Wall Street Journal reported that nearly half of the U.S. population lived in a household that received some type of government benefit in 2010.
