Update on U.S. financial situation
Wall Street protests
- The Congressional Budget Office estimated that the Fiscal Year 2011 deficit was $1,300 billion ($1.3 trillion).
- Here is the Treasury Department cash and debt statement (PDF) for the final day of Fiscal Year 2011.
- Citing Census Bureau data, The Wall Street Journal reported that nearly half of the U.S. population lived in a household that received some type of government benefit in 2010.
- The latest IRS data showed that the top 1 percent of earners paid more than 38 percent of all income taxes (via the Tax Foundation)
