A conversation with Chris Christian

To fans of early Christian music, Chris Christian needs no introduction. He was one of the driving forces behind the genre in the 1970s and 80s, though in recent years his other highly successful entrepreneurial ventures have taken him out of the Christian music mainstream.

A musician himself, Chris Christian had several hit records himself, but he made his biggest mark as a songwriter, producer, and record executive. He produced hundreds of albums for such artists as The Pointer Sisters, Al Jarreau, B.J. Thomas, Debbie Boone, Mark Heard, B.W. Stevenson, Steve Archer, Whiteheart, Dan Peek, and many more.

He’s probably best known for his long-time collaboration with Amy Grant. With his friend Brown Bannister, he discovered Amy Grant while she was still in high school, and he produced her first album, and many others after that.
