Columbine anniversary

April 20: On April 20, 1999, Columbine High School students Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold rampaged through their Colorado high school, killing 12 fellow students and injuring another 24 before killing themselves. Two new books—Columbine by Dave Cullen and Columbine: A True Crime Story by Jeff Kass—were published as the massacre's 10-year anniversary approached.

Dual royal anniversary

April 21: Queen Elizabeth II will have to share her 83rd birthday festivities with the anniversary of another English royal. On this day in 1509, Henry VIII was crowned King of England after the death of his father, Henry VII, on the same day. During his reign, the colorful king had more wives than could be counted on one hand, founded a church to annul his own marriages and, according to one count, executed more than 70,000, including many political enemies.
