Priest Xavier Arnold Fagba of Saint-Peter’s Parish in Boali, Central African Republic, holds a baby on Jan. 19 as the church granted Muslims shelter. Widespread sectarian violence throughout the nation has followed a 2012 coup by Seleka rebels, who are predominantly jihadist fighters. The rebels mostly have attacked Christians, yet several hundred Muslim women and children fled to the church as French troops guarded the building.
