We see only the surface of things in this present age, only “through a glass darkly.” For instance, in 1 Thessalonians Paul urges us to rejoice always—and few suspect that the very practice of rejoicing in God is not only worship but also is the way to heal depression. God commands praise at all times—and little do we realize that what seems to be an entirely vertical transaction is also for our benefit, as vocalized praises are God’s ordained way to send enemy spirits to flight.
Music also has a place in the scheme of spiritual progress or hindrance. The songs we allow to romp in our minds are not a matter of spiritual indifference. We already know that Satan has various schemes, and without going into detail, I will tell you that the Deceiver used specific songs in my life to foster major delusions in me that caused untold personal and collateral damage. And when the flowers of evil had sprouted, he laughed and showed me that I had been had.
Music is not neither here nor there in your life. I am convinced that just as God uses song and music for our benefit and healing, Satan encourages fatal delusions with certain music. In my case, the songs were not in and of themselves bad, but sin produced death in me through what was in itself neutral. Idolatry took opportunity in songs to produce evil in me. Watch out for the Angel of Light.
Get rid of songs in your head that do you no good. It makes a difference. Take up a garment of praise for a spirit of heaviness, and see how it brings healing to body and mind.
