Trinity Church, also known as Trinity Wall Street, is one of several historic churches in lower Manhattan that are the oldest in the nation. Chartered by King William III in 1697, it hosted a thanksgiving service attended by George Washington upon his 1789 inauguration in New York. Its St. Paul's Chapel is the oldest continuously used structure in New York, and has survived multiple fires and the falling debris of 9/11. Those who took refuge there after the Twin Towers fell read aloud from the Beatitudes.
