Sudden danger

Indonesia's Mount Merapi volcano began erupting in October, spewing gas and ash that drove some 300,000 Indonesians from their homes and killed more than 300 people within a few weeks. Rescuers expected to find more bodies when villages buried in hot ash cooled enough to excavate.
