Fall from grace

"Fall from grace" Continued...

When the scandal broke in 2006, she was shocked by the news: "The first words out of my mouth were, 'Who are you?'"

Joined by his wife and two adult children at an early January press event in Los Angeles, Haggard tried to explain why he was stepping back into the spotlight but refused to directly answer questions about his scandal and sexuality.

"We knew we had to answer the questions," said Haggard, attempting to explain the reason for the documentary. "For the sake of our kids going to school. For the sake of me trying to build a business. And just a message . . . our life message."

Although Haggard would not specifically respond to the allegations of homosexuality and drug use, he did send a message that day to his original accuser: "I apologize to Mike Jones, for the relationship that we developed. I shouldn't have done it, and it was a very bad mistake on my part."
