A Georgian villager prays in a small church near Gori, northeast of the capital Tbilisi. Gori residents saw airstrikes and heavy shelling of the city during five days of war following a Russian invasion of Georgia Aug. 8. On Aug. 26 Russia unilaterally declared two Russian-dominated regions of the country independent, promising further tension for Georgia and its Western allies.
