Qatar officials approved construction of the oil-rich Gulf state's first church in 2000-and it is scheduled to open this month in time for Easter services. The tiny nation on the Saudi peninsula practices strict Wahhabi Islam that prohibits the public practice of any other religion, but the government has quietly allowed Christian communities to meet informally. This church will serve the nation's estimated 60,000 Roman Catholics.
