Authorities on Feb. 6 arrested space shuttle astronaut Lisa Marie Nowak, a Navy captain, after she allegedly attacked Air Force Capt. Colleen Shipman with pepper spray as Shipman sat in her own car at an Orlando airport. Both women were involved in relationships with another astronaut, space shuttle pilot Bill Oefelein, 42. In March, NASA released Nowak from astronaut duty and reassigned her to the Navy. Nowak, 43, pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted kidnapping, battery, and burglary with assault. In November, a judge ruled that police coerced Nowak and did not properly inform her of her Miranda rights. She is currently awaiting a jury trial.
