Former NHL defenseman Al MacInnis, on the eve of his induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame, refusing to take credit for a career that included such highlights as Stanley Cup playoff MVP in 1989 and 12 All Star Game appearances. When he retired in 2005, MacInnis was third among defensemen for goals, assists, and points.

"We've broken records around here before. We're used to breaking records."

Texas Tech football coach Mike Leach on receiving a record $10,000 fine from the Big 12 Conference for his complaints about the officiating crew for his team's Nov. 10 game against the University of Texas. Leach called the crew "a complete travesty" and has refused to apologize or retract the statement.
