Signs of God

"Signs of God" Continued...

Issue: "Effective Compassion," Sept. 1, 2007

The school has produced many spiritual benefits. No one in the Drake family was a Christian, so the Christ-centered curriculum came as a surprise to Rose. In a few weeks, though, she found herself sticking around more and more for the Bible-story time near the start of each day: "Al Proo and his staff loved me and my family the way Jesus loves."

Within six months of first arriving at Happy Hands' doorstep, Rose and each of her three daughters made a profession of faith in Christ and were baptized. She and her children continued to receive love and support: "I can't tell you how many times I sat in the office here with Jan Pride and Al Proo all around me holding my hand in prayer."

After Rose Drake recounted her testimony for a 2004 Happy Hands promotional video, Audrey asked her: "Did God make me deaf so that you would become a Christian?" Al Proo answers that question with Psalm 109:27, the verse he says has come to define Happy Hands: "Let them know that this is Your hand; You, O LORD, have done it."
