The whole point of going to a coffee shop is to smoke.

Arjan Roskam, chairman of the Union for Cannabis Retailers in Amsterdam, on a new Dutch law that bans smoking at coffee shops that sell marijuana. Government officials expressed concern about second-hand smoke, not pot use, in passing the law. The Netherlands has about 800 cannabis cafes.

Appallingly lax.

Adams County (Colo.) District Judge John J. Vigil, describing jury supervision during a murder case over which he presided. Judge Vigil was angry that jurors consulted the Bible during deliberations and on May 23 overturned convicted murderer Robert Harlan's death sentence.
