Vice President Dick Cheney will not head to Asia for two weeks this spring.

Issue: "War inside the red zone," April 12, 2003

Vice President Dick Cheney will not head to Asia for two weeks this spring. Plans were underway for Mr. Cheney to head to Beijing to meet with new Chinese President Hu Jintao. He was also expected to go to Japan, South Korea, and Australia for high-level discussions about hostilities in Iraq and growing tensions with North Korea. But press secretary Jennifer Millerwise says the vice president needs to stay close to the White House to help oversee the war in Iraq and notes that President Bush postponed his Africa trip at the beginning of this year.
