  • Elected to U.S. House of Representatives in 1978; seved until 1986
  • Married Linda Hall Daschle; three children from previous marriage to Laurie Klinkel, whom he divorced in 1983
  • Elected to U.S. Senate in 1986
  • Became Senate Majority Leader in 2001
